Join us on Thursday 29 April at 7pm for this special online event – a once off projection of unseen footage gathered from Galway’s past and Kaunas, Lithuania’s present. Super 8 Shots “Wonder Years” will give you a glimpse into rare never seen before 8mm and 16mm digitally remastered amateur footage from Galway and Ireland dating back to the 1950s, 60s and 70s, with an original piano soundtrack composed by Galway based composer Julien Dorgere for this project.
These films have not been digitized from reel format, they have been scanned frame by frame in high resolution by Super8 Ireland in a processed called “Wetgate”, which removes cracks and scratches on the emulsion. They have then been digitally remastered to achieve such a quality that it feels you are travelling in time.
Before “Wonder Years”, you will also get to see a brief collection of newly shot Super8 films from Kaunas as part of “Exquisite Corpse”, a special collaboration with Kaunas 2022 European Capital of Culture. More info on the Kaunas Super8 project here.
